Four ERB trainees awarded Sir Edward Youde Memorial Awards for Self-improvement for Working Adults 2023-24

Four trainees of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) were honored with the “Awards for Self-improvement for Working Adults” at the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund 37th Awards Presentation Ceremony held today (24 March 2024), in recognition of their perseverance and commitment to skills training and lifelong learning, opening doors to new directions and opportunities for career development.  The four awarded trainees who had completed the ERB placement-tied courses were nominated by ERB, and were commended by the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund for their constant quest for self-improvement through engagement in skills training.

Awardee Li Yizhen encountered a career setback during the pandemic, and she took the opportunity to enrol in the ERB “Foundation Certificate in Assistant for Chinese Medical Clinic Training” course to upgrade herself and pave way for a second career in the Chinese medicine field in which she has a strong interest.  Currently, she works as a junior research assistant at the School of Chinese Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, to assist in research studies and related administrative work for the research team specialised in pediatric massage for autism.  With dedication to continuous learning, Yizhen further completed work-related training courses and she is determined to pursue further studies related to pediatric massage with the ultimate goal of acquiring certification and advancing professional growth.

Awardee Wong King-fung Kevin started off with business study before switching to the engineering field to pursue his career aspiration.  Kevin embarked on the new path with the ERB “Foundation Certificate in Electrical Wireman Training (Intermediate Trade Test)” course, and he became an artisan in repair and maintenance works after graduation.  With his perseverance and eagerness to learn, Kevin continued to pursue further studies, completing several courses in the areas of construction safety and AutoCAD, etc.  To plan for the future, Kevin will continue his journey of learning and upgrading, with the goal of becoming a licensed electrical wireman and a licensed plumber in the years to come.

Awardee Chong Tak-ying Anna completed the ERB “Foundation Certificate in Post-natal Care Worker Training” course and successfully transitioned from being a homemaker to pursuing a career as a professional post-natal care worker.  Throughout her career journey, she has continuously enrolled in a wide array of training courses, including infant nutrition, pediatric diseases and post-natal diet, etc., with a view to equipping herself for providing better and comprehensive services and care to both new mothers and babies.

Awardee Huang Weidan found her passion in healthcare sector after completion of the ERB “Certificate in Health Worker Training” course and then landed a job as a trainer in a residential care home.  Finding her work deeply fulfilling, Weidan is determined to pursue further studies to enhance her knowledge in the care-giving field in order to better serve those in need.
