SME Mentorship Programme

Employees Retraining Board (ERB) launched the “SME Mentorship Programme” in 2015 with a view to assisting SMEs to improve the quality of human resources systems and practices. Veteran practitioners volunteered to serve as mentors to share their professional advices and practical experience in manpower training and development with the SMEs taking a one-on-one interactive approach.

The recruitment of mentee for “SME Mentorship Programme” in 2018-20 would be taken place in two phases. Phase One of the recruitment for mentee is now open for application to all SMEs.



  • All mentors are holding management positions in “Manpower Developers”* organisations and possess extensive knowledge and experience in the disciplines of human resources, training or corporate management

  • Mentors and mentees can customize the format and topic of exchange. Paired mentor and mentee are encouraged to communicate at least once every four months.

  • 12-month mentorship period

  • Participation is free of charge
  • ERB will conduct a kick-off activity before commencement of the mentorship period at each phase, so as to facilitate familiarisation of all paired mentors and mentees.

Eligibility for SME Participant

  • Holding a valid Business Registration Certificate for a minimum of one year; and
  • Employing less than 50 persons in Hong Kong for non-manufacturing operation or less than 100 persons in Hong Kong for manufacturing operation; and
  • The applicant should be the owner or the person in charge of human resources or training of the organisation

  • The ERB will take into consideration the preference of applicant in the matching process. If the number of application exceeds the quotas, a first-come-first-served approach will be adopted.


Kick-off Activity

Successful SME participants will be invited to attend a kick-off activity for the 2018-20 “SME Mentorship Programme” in September 2018 to meet the volunteer mentorsDetails will be announced later.

* The ERB launched the “ERB Manpower Developer Award Scheme” (the Scheme) in 2009 to recognise organisations which demonstrate outstanding achievements in manpower training and development as Manpower Developers (MDs). As at May 2018, there are a total of 464 MDs straddling 30 industries.

**  SME participant of Phase One would apply to extend the mentorship until March 2020 with the same mentor or pairing up a new mentor
