Appointment of Mr. NG Ka-kwong as the New Executive Director

The Employees Retraining Board (ERB) today (Monday, July 26) announced the appointment of Mr. NG Ka-kwong as the New Executive Director to succeed Ms. Rebecca PUN, JP.

Seconded from the Civil Service, Ms. Rebecca PUN, JP assumed the post of the ERB Executive Director in April 2006 for conducting a strategic review on the future role and functions of the ERB. During her tenure as the ERB Executive Director, the public consultation on the Future Directions for the ERB was completed and the respective proposals presented in the final review report were approved by the Government in March 2009 for implementation in phases. The secondment of Ms. Rebecca PUN to the ERB will end on 1 August 2010. An open recruitment was conducted and a selection panel was set up by the ERB to identify the right candidate to fill the post.

Aged 52, Mr. NG Ka-kwong graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1979. He joined the Civil Service as Assistant Labour Officer in the same year and retired from the post of Assistant Commissioner for Labour in April 2010.

The selection panel recommended Mr. NG Ka-kwong to the Board as the most suitable candidate for the next Executive Director in view of his rich experiences in both training and employment services, as well as performance in the interview. Mr. NG's appointment was endorsed by the Board.

The ERB thanks Ms. Rebecca PUN for completing the strategic review of the ERB, and leading the Executive Office of the ERB in launching new courses and services since the repositioning of the ERB, establishing clear directions and laying a strong foundation for future development of the ERB in the past four years. The ERB trusts that the successor Mr. NG would further the development of the ERB to cope with the ever-changing market by offering timely and appropriate training courses and services to more than 2.6 million service targets of the ERB, enhancing their skills attainment so as to provide a flexible, quality and resilient labour force for Hong Kong's knowledge-based economy.
