The 4th ERB “Manpower Development Scheme” Award Presentation Ninety awards commending employers, trainees, instructors and training bodies

The Employees Retraining Board (ERB) organised the 4th ERB "Manpower Development Scheme" Award Presentation today (7 January 2012) at the Plaza of Sha Tin Town Hall, with the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, GBS, JP, the Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Paul Tang Kwok-wai, JP, the Chairman of ERB, Dr. Ng Tat-lun, SBS, JP, the Vice-chairman of ERB, Mr. William LEUNG Wing-cheung, BBS, JP and the Executive Director of ERB, Mr. Ng Ka-kwong, BBS officiated the kick off ceremony. The event was attended by around 400 guests.

Altogether 90 awards were presented to employers, trainees, instructors and training bodies to acknowledge their invaluable contributions to the ERB "Manpower Development Scheme"

Nine trainees were awarded the "ERB Outstanding Award for Trainees". They included a middle-aged unemployed who embarked on anther career journey after value-added training, young people who were dedicated to career achievements, new arrivals who strove their best for a new chapter of life, a trainee of ethnic origin who was determined to improve the welfare of his communities, and a young lady who shouldered the livelihood of her whole family. The Award not only showcases the positive attitude of the trainees towards life and their courage in overcoming adversities, but it also acknowledges their continuous efforts to learn new skills through enrolment in ERB training courses. There are indeed plenty to learn from their experience.

The Chairman of ERB, Dr. Ng Tat-lun highlighted in his speech that ERB now teams up with over 120 appointed training bodies to build ERB into a springboard for its 2.6 million service targets. ERB offers some 800 training courses, straddling from entry-level job skills as well as professional certification training, to assist trainees to enhance their employability and acquire recognised qualifications.

Dr. Ng highlighted that ERB was determined to improve its service quality on a continuous basis. ERB is now formulating a "three-year strategic plan" in collaboration with various stakeholders, with the objective of offering timely and suitable training programmes and services in an innovative manner.

The ERB "Manpower Development Scheme" Award Presentation has moved into its fourth year. On this occasion, 63 organisations were nominated for the employer awards. Among them, 2 were awarded "ERB Excellence Award for Employers", 11 were awarded "ERB Outstanding Award for Employers" and 17 were awarded "ERB Merit Award for Employers". The winning organizations have participated actively in ERB "Manpower Development Scheme" and accorded priority to ERB trainees in recruitment, assisted in the promotion of ERB courses and services, provided career ladders for staff development and advancement, and encouraged staff to pursue life-long education.

As for trainees, a total of 79 nominations were received. 9 trainees were awarded "ERB Outstanding Award for Trainees" while 11 were awarded "ERB Merit Award for Trainees".

Awards for instructors aimed at acknowledging the achievements of instructors in coaching and guiding ERB trainees. Out of the 48 nominations received, 5 instructors were awarded "ERB Outstanding Award for Instructors" while another 5 were awarded "ERB Merit Award for Instructor".

To commend appointed training bodies for their contributions to ERB courses and services, 12 training bodies were awarded "ERB Outstanding Award for Placement Services", while another 6 each were awarded "ERB Outstanding Award for Course Development", "ERB Outstanding Award for Course Management", and "ERB Outstanding Award for Promotion and Marketing".
